Welcome to Yesteryear-Recipes.com

Hi and Welcome! We’re glad to have you stop by and visit with us today.

This site is for everyone to pick up or share a recipe that is from days gone by. Maybe it’s a recipe your Grandmother used to cook and the smell of her dish is still fresh as a spring day in your mind. Maybe you’ll share a recipe that was given to you years ago…stop feeling guilty about keeping it to yourself and post it here for all to enjoy.

We would like to make this site one for recipes of all nations and regions. If you’re like me, I really enjoy trying foods from other countries, regions and times gone by (I’m British, just in case you’re wondering.). We seem to be missing something today that our parents and grandparents were able to enjoy in their foods.

Maybe we are living too fast today, maybe we don’t appreciate our foods quite as much, maybe…because nearly everything we eat today is prepackaged and prepared for us. Whatever the reason, I believe life is so much more enjoyable when those wonderful smells of freshly cooked, fresh foods are drifting through the house and the fabulous tastes can be vividly remembered for long periods of time.

On this site we will be posting recipes for Main meals, Desserts, Sweets, Drinks, Jams, Conserves, Jellies…and even Pickling!

We hope you will be joining us to share these wonderful recipes of years gone by. Yes, we realize that the recipes on offer in today’s world are all well and good, and some really are wonderful, we just believe that the recipes of our grandparents are just as good and quite often better (because of the fresh and home cooked foods).

When did you last have a meal prepared the way your grandparents had theirs, with all the love and affection that seemed to make the food taste so much better? What has happened to those wonderful cakes and puddings that greeted us with the smell, then the mouth watering taste? Everyone seems to be so busy these days that good old fashioned and freshly prepared food simply gets bypassed!

Everyday we hear someone on the telly saying that all the processed foods are not good for us, yet we eat more and more of them. Well, I say Stop It! Let’s get started on getting those old recipes out in the open again and circulating through our kitchens and dining areas and the unforgettable smells and memories. We will soon realize that these recipes using fresh food and eating more healthily is well worth the little amount of extra effort it takes.

To get started, we have posted a recipe for one main meal, one dessert, we have also posted a recipe for sweeties (to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours) and a recipe for a healthy fresh drink. Also, a recipe for pickling. All these recipes are from my great grannies time (the early 1900’s) and bring back fabulous memories.

Thanks again for stopping by. Remember, please share your recipes and memories often so people the world over can know what they’ve missed and maybe they can create those wonderful memories that fresh foods create for themselves.

To send us a recipe that you would like to have put on to the website just send it to recipes “at” yesteryear-recipes “dot” com,(replace “at” with @ and “Dot” with .) this as been done to control spam.  We will be happy to include your recipes onto  yesteryear-recipes as long as it is found to be appropriate and legal.

We’ll talk again soon,

Flo

  1. Hi,

I Just love this site, I have left two recipes so far and am searching for more old family recipes to put on to this site. I agree that people are now eating more processed food and not fresh food, it’s a shame, I eat lots of fresh food, vegetables, fruit, meat.

It does take a little more time to prepare these dishes, but I find that if you prepare some of the ingredients the night before then even if you are a working person you can to eat more fresh and healthy food.

I use to love the smells that came out of my old grandmother kitchen when I was small and also out of my Mothers kitchen.

So carry on the good work and thanks for putting this site up. When I find a new recipe, I will share with you and all.

  2. Hi,
