SUET PUDDING WITH PEARS

Welcome to yesteryear-recipes.com.  Here is a recipe from Grandma, it’s a great pudding recipe that can be adapted to however you like once you have the basic suet pudding recipe, but we have here the recipe for suet pudding with pears.  This used to be something grandma made for us when we had sunday dinner with her.  We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do. We often used fresh suet, but this can be hard to find, so when we can’t get fresh we use the pre shredded that can be brought in any supermarket.

We will be adding more suet pudding mixes and recipes, so come back and look in.

Ingriedients

Half  pound of suet (chopped or buy the ready shredded)
1 stale loaf of bread
2 eggs
1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt, allspice, cloves, and cinnamon
1teaspoon of grated lemon peel
flour
2 teaspoon of baking power
6 pears

This is a great recipe, takes a little time to prepare, but it is well worth it.

Let start by taking the suet and chop it to a powder (unless using the pre-shredded kind)less this in a bowl until needed.

Now take the loaf of stale bread and soak in water (just enough to soak the bread), once soaked squeeze out the water and add to the suet. Work bread and suet together with your hands, once you have worked the bread and suet together add two eggs, one cup of sugar, and one teaspoon, of salt, allspice, cloves, cinnamon and grated peel of a lemon.

Now sift two teaspoons of baking-powder in flour, add enough flour to the mixture so that you can work into a huge ball. Once you have made your ball leave until needed.

Take your cooking pears and peel and core them, cut in halves, (leaving the stems on). Lay half the pears in a large saucepan, put the pudding in centre of the pears, and lay the rest of the pears all around.

Add sugar, sliced lemon, a few cloves, some cinnamon bark and three tablespoons of syrup. Fill up with cold water and boil half an
hour on top of stove. Then bake in a moderate (180-200) oven for at least three hours, adding water if needed.

Serve hot or cold, on its own or had custard or cream.
