PLUM BUTTER

Welcome, I thought that you would like another free recipe, this time it’s grandma’s Plum Butter, I sure am glad that grandma and the rest of the old family kept their books and pieces of paper containing the recipes.  They have given my family, and our offspring some wonderful healthy natural dishes to cook.

Ingredients

4 qt. plums
1 cup hot water
3 lb sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

First, wash the plums, now cut them in half (leave the skins on), make sure to remove the seeds, once you have done this put the plums with the hot water into a saucepan, place on the stove and boil until they are nice and soft.
Now that they have boiled press them through a sieve (or a colander) and return to the saucepan, this is when you add the sugar and spices.

Boil until the mixture is thick and jelly-like, making sure that you are constantly stirring  to prevent the mixture from scorching/burning.  Pour into hot sterilized jars or glasses, when the mixture as cooled, seal the containers. If you are using very sour plums add an extra half pound of sugar.

These butters taste great on bread, or used as a pie or tart filling,  when I use them for pies, I make a great egg custard to put on top. it is a wonderful alternative to a pie crust.
