MILK PUNCH
quart of milk
lemon peel from 1 lemon
4 oz of lump sugar
tea cup of rum
tea cup of brandy
2 egg yokes
Ready to make Grandma’s great drink for your guests either as a warmer or a nightcap.
Pour the quart of fresh milk into a saucepan, add the thinly pared rind of the lemon, and the four ounces of lump sugar; let it boil slowly, once it has boiled remove the peel, now crack your eggs and separate the yolks from the whites and mix in a cup with a little cold milk, now slowly stir into the boiling milk. (Remember the punch must not be allowed to boil after the eggs have been added.)
Now whisk little by little the rum, and the brandy into the simmering milk; until it is covered by a fine froth, and serve immediately in quite warm glasses.
This is a delightful old recipe for those cold nights. I bet your guests would enjoy it as they come in from the cold night air, or it is great as a nightcap before your go to bed.
