Grandma’s Old Fashion Candy Recipes, Vol 1

Do you remember going to Grandma’s house when you were young? When we visited Grandma and Grandpa, I became excited right away because as soon as we walked into their home, I could see that crunchy peanut brittle on the coffee table and I could always smell the fudge!. I remember that aroma as if it were just yesterday. They say the power of smell is the most powerful one we use to recollect…I sure believe it.

How to make candy…Grandma Wilkie sure knew how! She always had some goodies made to satisfy my sweet tooth. It seemed as if she made her two layer fudge just for me. Now that I’m a little older, I realize that Grandma made all of us kids feel that way.. The fond and fun memories she created with her candies…I’m forever grateful for them, and for Grandma Wilkie.

In an effort to help children (of all ages) enjoy today what I enjoyed those so many years ago, I’ve put together a collection of Grandma’s favorite candy and confection recipes. Grandma seemed like everyone was always asking for her fudge and BonBon recipes…now you can have them too!

Quite frequently she would hide some fudge away and if we had been “good” (I imagine now that meant not tearing the house apart!) she would let us have a small piece a little before bedtime. We had to relax and that was her bribe to us…it worked each and every time.

Grandma always tried to use home grown and fresh ingredients in her recipes. Unfortunately, no matter how much we kids tried, we just couldn’t grow a chocolate tree, so that was one thing Grandma always bought from the grocer. But she made up for it with all the love she put into those delicious treats! Natural and wholesome were very important concepts to all my Grandmothers.

Because those who preceded me wrote their recipes down & kept the books they bought so many years ago (some as early as 1830), I’m now able to give those feelings, aromas and memories to my grandchildren. They’re amazed something can taste so wonderful and NOT come from a store or restaurant!

When they’re here with me, they are completely enveloped in the warm feelings caused by those wonderful tastes and sensations enabled by the recipes in Grandma’s Old Fashion Candy Recipes, Vol 1.
