Chile And Chocolate Barbeque Sauce Recipe!

by Kaylynn Alcyone

Chocolate is not just for dessert anymore!

This recipe is unlike any other. With a unique combination of both sweet and spicy sensations, your guests will have a great time trying to guess your secret ingredient. Due to the unpredictable introduction of chocolate as an ingredient, this barbeque sauce recipe makes a great hostess or thank you gift when jarred and presented with a packaged sampling of other chocolate treats such as truffles, cookies and even chocolate dipped fruit! Take a risk and try something new, your taste buds will thank you!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of softened butter – small diced Spanish Onion – 4 minced garlic cloves – 2 diced plum tomatoes – 14 ounces of vegetable stock – 8 ounces of typical store bought barbeque sauce – teaspoon of cumin – 1.5 Ounces of dark brown sugar – 4 teaspoons of Ancho Chile powder – teaspoon of cinnamon – 1 teaspoon of fresh cilantro – 2 ounces of high-quality dark chocolate ( the higher cocoa percentage the better) – Salt and Pepper to taste

Melt your butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Saut both your onion and garlic for about five minutes or until the onions are golden brown in color.

Now, slowly add your tomatoes and continue to saut for five more minutes. Add your Chile powder and sugar to the sauted vegetables and stir frequently. Let this mixture simmer until it reaches a paste consistency.

Once the mixture has thickened, add your spices, vegetable stock and barbeque sauce and bring the pot to a boil. Reduce heat and let the pot simmer for about thirty minutes. Now for the main event! Add your chocolate and cilantro and continue to simmer the mixture for an additional five minutes.

Remove your sauce pan from the heat and let stand for at least ten or twelve minutes. Puree your sauce using a hand mixer or immersion blender and refrigerate for fifteen hours or more.
